MUSCLE MRI: What can new measurements tell us about old diseases?

Thursday 23rd September 2021, 11am-12pm on Zoom

Although we know muscle is affected in a wide range of diseases, it has long been an understudied area in medical research. At Leeds Biomedical Research Centre researchers are using state of the art Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) techniques to understand how muscles change in response to disease and how we might better treat them.

We’ll be joined by Dr John Biglands, one of our MRI physicists. John will explain the way MRI can be used to measure changes in the microscopic structure of muscles that could provide new insights into how muscle change during disease.
Dr Ai Lyn Tan is a consultant rheumatologist and will explain what we currently know about the way muscles change in response to inflammatory diseases and how we might be able to treat them.
