Professors Hemant Pandit and Anthony Redmond have just had confirmation that their UKIERI grant has been successful. The project will fund activity in Leeds and with our partners in India (£121k in UK and ~£65k India) for unicompartmental knee replacement, a safe surgical treatment option for treating end-stage knee osteoarthritis which provides good outcome and allows Indian patients’ to address social / cultural needs to squat and sit cross-legged. At present however, this treatment option is rarely used in India. The project also showcases Leeds’ expertise and approach to international outreach.
